Today I wanted to post the photos from my girls room that I finished decorating over the summer.  When designing childrens’ rooms I really think about longevity in the design.  My girls are 10 and 11 so I wanted to create a space for them that will last for years to come.  I don’t like creating themes in a kids rooms rather I like to create a feeling that can grow with them.  When designing, I also like to mix custom and store bought pieces, that way I can get the budget to stretch as far as possible without compromising on the beautiful end result.  The dresser between their beds is one I purchased for under $500 at an unfinished wood furniture shop.  I then grabbed a Sherwin Williams paint bucket and painted it myself and found some cute knobs from World Market to jazz it up.  DIY is a great way to save money on a project!  My splurge in this room was their light fixture.  I believe that lighting is the like jewelry and is a great way to make a statement in any space.  My two favorite places to buy drapery hardware are West Elm (the one’s pictured here are from there) and Restoration Hardware.  The drapes were made from a fabric I created through one of my watercolor paintings.  I love giving a room a one-of-a-kind item that makes it special.  In the end, this room will grow with them for years to come.  I have included links at the end of this post, so that you too can grab some of these fun pieces!
