For this week’s Throwback Thursday I wanted to share a before and after of my own kitchen renovation.  The before photos are what the kitchen looked like before we moved into our home.  Everything in our house was so dark and heavy and needed a major facelift.  Being a designer it is hard to not want to do what is trendy at the moment so I really focused on a clean kitchen look that I thought would look great for years to come and I sure enough I still love it several years later.

Sorry the before photos are so hard to see:((

We have an open concept kitchen living area, so the first thing we did was get rid of the travertine floors and replace with hardwoods that matched the rest of the house.  We live in one of the oldest neighborhoods in San Antonio so as much as I love a pretty wide plank farm house wood floor I kept with the historical feel of our neighborhood and am still loving our floors.   The cabinets were in great condition so I painted them Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee and for a punch of color I did Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black for the island.  Someday, I would love fabric barstools, but having three kids under the age of 12, I went the practical route for barstools.  I did a little DIY with these stools from IKEA and spray painted the legs gold.

Below I have linked some of my favorite pendants for over your kitchen island.   Lighting is like jewelry so picking something special can really make a statement in your design.
